If you feel you’re suffering from Sciatica Nerve pain then it is necessary to seek immediate medical attention. To understand the severity of the condition, it is a must to go for a complete medical check up. The symptoms are usually interlinked with that of the other underlying medical conditions which are not yet resolved, so it’s very important to understand the causes of the symptoms. You have to explain your condition elaborately to your doctor without leaving any of the simplest details so that you can be given the best treatment available for Sciatica Nerve pain.

Sciatic nerve treatment will depend on what has caused it, such as a herniated disc in your back, and how severe your condition is. Your doctor may recommend physical therapy, together with painkillers and anti inflammatory drugs such as aspirin or naproxen, both to ease the pain and to reduce inflammation. Painkillers and anti inflammatory drugs should be taken for the briefest period possible as they may cause side effects, such as internal bleeding or stomach upset.

If your Sciatica Nerve pain becomes severe enough so that you can’t perform any movements, your doctor may prescribe steroid injections. The drugs reduce the inflammation, but can’t be administered excessively since it can be dangerous. So it is restricted by law to a maximum of three in a year. But this helps only for a short period of time, not for the whole year.

When nothing else seems to help, some patients turn to surgery. While surgery can relieve Sciatica nerve pain, there are usually complications in which the patients experience afterward. Surgery is only seen as the last option for pain relief and is meant only for those who are suffering from extreme problems such as numbness in the legs or loss in bowel or bladder control. Before you make your final decision it is important to think of the pros and cons of surgery.

Sciatica nerve pain is a serious condition that should be treated as soon as possible and not ignored. Initial symptoms might start as a loss of sensation in the legs and back. If left untreated the loss of leg movement or late stage loss of bladder or bowel control is a possibility. Many people initially treat the pain with over the counter medication, acting on the belief that it is easily remedied. Sadly, even if the disorder does go away, permanent or irreversible nerve damage is left behind.

There isn’t one preferred form of treatment; your doctor will usually recommend a course of action depending on your symptoms and the progress of the disorder in the case. Generally the first step would be to have a look at the drugs that will reduce the pain and inflammation. Many patients also turn to chiropractors for further help. An alternative form of treatment is acupuncture which has been tremendously successful in relieving the symptoms of Sciatic Nerve pain. There isn’t a particular format for treatment and at best you need to choose one form that will best suit your condition.
